How do Europeans view Muslims and Islam?

In the spring of 2016, we conducted a survey of residents of 10 European countries about how many, in their opinion, Muslims in these countries are supported by extremist groups such as ISIS. In most cases, the prevailing answers were “some” and “few”, but in Italy 46% answered “many” or “most”.

In the same poll, Europeans were asked how they feel about Muslims – positively or negatively. The responses varied from country to country: most Hungarians, Italians, Poles and Greeks said negative attitudes, but in France, Germany, Great Britain and other countries of Northern and Western Europe, it is much less common. People on the right are much more likely to have a negative attitude towards Muslims than on the left.
